Structural Engineer – Entry Level - Kalamazoo, MI

Wantman Group (WGI) is a multidisciplinary consulting firm with thirteen offices nationwide specializing in engineering, surveying, geospatial mapping, planning, land development, environmental and parking consulting services. In 2017, WGI ranked #252 on the ENR's list of the Top 500 Design Firms. We are seeking an Engineering Intern (EI) to join our growing team in our Kalamazoo office.

The position involves engineering and design of new parking structure projects, where you will be a member of a structural design team. You will work closely with a structural project manager and other design engineers on a variety of new parking structure designs, mixed-use facilities, and pedestrian bridges. A structural engineering, or comparable, background is preferred, however, previous experience with parking design is not necessary. After becoming familiar with parking structure design and WGI processes, the position will evolve to include project management, incorporating communication and coordination with internal and external clients, and management of project resources.

Key Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Contribute to project design and the production, construction cost estimates, specifications, and drawings;
  • Assist: with project structural engineering analysis, design, and document production; with potential and current clients to communicate progress and solve issues; during the bidding phase, including pre-bid meetings, addenda, bid evaluations, review of alternates and substitutions; during the construction administration phase, including preconstruction meetings, construction review, project meetings, test report review, project close-out, etc.

Job Qualifications:

  • BS Structural, Civil, or Architectural Engineering, or an MSCE from an ABET accredited engineering program with focus on structural engineering;
  • Passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam;
  • 0-3 years of related work experience in engineering and design of buildings, bridges, or comparable concrete or steel structures;
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently and work on large multi-discipline engineering teams;
  • Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills;
  • Proficiency or ability to become proficient in Structural Engineering Software including Leap Bridge, Conspan, RC-Pier, STAAD, MDX, Midas, FB-MultiPier, MathCAD, AutoCAD, Revit, SAP2000, and Microstation (Geopak knowledge a plus).
